Bauman of Fall City, Neb., for her decades of dedicated service to the Society and her outstanding leadership in the Nebraska business community. Bauman received the Society’s 2019 Distinguished Service to theProfessionAwardduring theSociety’sAnnualMeeting. In its 91-year history, Bauman becomes only the 34th member to receive the Society’s highest award. A member of the Society since 1995, Bauman has continually served on Society committees and boards, where she has often assumed leadership roles. She spent 12 years on the Society Board of Directors; 23 years on the Governmental Accounting and Auditing Committee, serving 10 of those years as either vice chairman or chairman; a year on the Fall CPE Planning Com- mittee; and three years on the Nominating Committee. Bauman served as secretary of the Society Board for two years and was elected chairman in 2011. Following her term as chairman, she continued her service to the Society, serving for six years on the Foundation Board of Trustees. For the past six years, she has helped lead the Audits of Nebraska School Districts course for the Society. She also served on the American Institute of Certified Public Ac- countants (AICPA) GoverningCouncil for three years and has been an AICPA member for 24 years. She is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants and is licensed in Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri. Bauman is a graduate of Peru State College, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and management. She passed the exam on the first sitting and earned her CPA license in May 1995. Cassandra Weitzenkamp, CPA, MPA, and instructor of business at Peru State College congratulated Bauman on her nomination, stating, “Peru StateCollege is privileged to have such a distinguished and accomplished graduate among its alumni. What a well-deserved honor!” Bauman worked for a local CPA firm for seven years before open- ing Julie D. Bauman, CPA, PC, located in Falls City, in 2002. As the owner and CEO of her own firm, Bauman successfully leads a company of 12 employees, focusing on robust tax savings strategies, wealthmanagement, asset protection, and single-family office CFO services. Bauman, CPA, PC.Not one to rest onher laurels, she strives for continuous self-development, learning, and professional development in order to evolve her organization into the “Firm of the Future.” Throughout her busy personal and professional life, Bauman has found time to volunteer and share her CPA skills and talents for the good of Nebraska. She has served as treasurer on the board of the NebraskaEnterpriseFund, located inOakland,Neb.,which supports small and micro business owners through access to capital, train- ing, and technical assistance. Former Governor Dave Heineman appointed her to serve on the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Supreme Court Judicial Fifth District during his term as governor. In 2019, Bauman started the JDB Impact Team in Falls City to provide goal setting and overcoming adversity within teams. She has beenmarried toMatt Bauman for 26 years. Together, they have three children: John, 21, is a partner in the farm operation; Kyle, 17, leads the JDB impact team as production manager and attends Sacred Heart School; and Rachel, 9, is in third grade at Sacred Heart. Past Society Chairman John Fruwirth stated: “I was privileged to serve on the board and several committees with Julie. She delivered the rare combination of wisdom and candor, spiced with gentle humor. I was struck by the congenial, professional atmosphere she created with her staff when she hosted an open house during one board retreat in sunny Falls City. She exempli- fied dedicated service alongside strong community leadership, all while a loving mother and partner in her family farming business. In short, she's the total package!” t The purpose of the Distinguished Service to the Profession Award is to recognize Nebraska CPAs who have, during their career, demonstrated a commitment to the accounting profession locally, nationally, or internationally.
