The Lienemann family has pledged $1.5 million to create an endowed chair position and support the Center for Entrepreneurship within the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s College of Business. The Lienemann Charitable Foundation pledged the gift to the University of Nebraska Foundation in honor of Delmar Lienemann Sr., who graduated from NU in 1941. The pledge will create the endowed Delmar A. Lienemann Sr. Presidential Chair of Accounting, providing an annual stipend for salary, research, and program support. The Lienemann family initially created the chair position in 2011. A 10-year gift commitment will also support the Center for Entrepreneurship, which gives students experience through hands-on competitions, workshops, and mentoring by Nebraska entrepreneurs. The center currently awards more than $80,000 annually to students to create new businesses, while also providing support through the student-led Husker Venture Fund. Society member Douglas E. “Doug” Lienemann, president of the Lienemann Charitable Foundation, a UNL alumnus and trustee of the NU Foundation, said the donation “is a way to honor our father” as well as help the College of Business attract a top faculty position. The Lienemann Charitable Foundation was created in 1967 by Del Lienemann Sr. and his wife, Charlotte. Lienemann was a CPA, real estate developer, retailer, investor, and civic leader in Lincoln before his death in 2018 at the age of 98. The couple’s children are all UNL alumni, and three sons graduated from the College of Business. The NU Foundation said the gift was made as part of the Only in Nebraska: A Campaign for Our University’s Future, which has a goal of raising $3 billion from 150,000 individual donors.
