PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE BY JONI SUNDQUIST, NEBRASKA SOCIETY OF CPAS SERVING YOU DURING THE CRISIS, THE RECOVERY & BEYOND Thehealthand safety of ourmembers andNebraskans across the state is the highest priority during this global pandemic. We all understand the critical role each and every one of us plays in flattening the curve and containing the spread of the virus. Despite the challenges and uncertainty COVID-19 has created, your Nebraska Society of CPAs is fully operational. We are working diligently to assist you and your teams at this unprecedented time, and are proud to support and represent the profession. As CPAs and members of the accounting profession, you play a vital role in helping businesses, individuals, and our economic well-being during the crisis, and you will continue to do so as we enter the recovery—and recovery will come. Take one day at a time. Today, after all, is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday. — Billy Graham Joni Sundquist is president and executive director of the Nebraska Society of CPAs. You may contact her at (402) 476-8482 or joni@nescpa.org. “Setbacks have an upside; they fuel new dreams.” – Dara Torres Your Society understands that you must have the ability to serve your clients and their businesses during this critical time—and that not everything can be accomplished from the kitchen table. The fact of the matter is some firms have payrolls to process, so people get paid, all official IRS communication is still delivered via U.S. mail, and there are a number of filings you still cannot file electronically. That said, we know many of our members are only going to the office when required to get the work done and that you’re working from home whenever possible, practicing social distancing, and taking the necessary precautions to keep all of us safe. “If you decide that you’re going to do only the things you know are going to work, you’re going to leave a lot of opportunity on the table.” – Jeff Bezo s As you have been working hard to support your clients and customers, your Society has been working hard to advocate on your behalf—by lobbying for the extension of tax filing and payment deadlines and by collaborating to protect needed business activities so that you may remain open throughout the global crisis. We are also seeking new ways of providing you with high-quality continuing professional education through virtual conferences and webcast courses explicitly created for Nebraska CPAs. We are here to stand up for you and your organizations, to keep you in the know, and to help you find answers to your questions. Please let us know how we can best serve you. “Always make a total effort, even when the odds are against you.” – Arnold Palmer Thank you for your continued commitment to the Society and the profession, and for allowing us to be your trusted resource. Stay healthy, stay positive, and stay Nebraska Strong. t M A R C H / A P R I L 2 0 2 0 6 nebraska cpas
