Roberts has a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Joseph Schaffart has been promoted to senior vice president and CFO of Metropolitan Utilities District. Schaffart joined the District in 2013 and most recently served as vice president, accounting. Prior to joining MUD, he held leadership roles in several companies including vice president and controller for First Data Resources, senior director of accounting for West Corp., and manager of cost accounting for Northern Natural Gas. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Jennie Scheel has joined CFO Systems Search & Staffing as a recruiter focused on placing accounting and finance professionals in roles in and around the Omaha and Lincoln metropolitan areas. Scheel brings more than 16 years of diversified experience managing audits, directing the relocation of accounting functions fromCalifornia toNebraska, overseeing accounting departments for both public and private companies, and leading accounting, human resources, sales, and marketing teams. Nate Scott has been electedpartner byBKD’sNebraska practice. He serves clients in the construction, real estate, manufacturing, and distribution industries. Scott chairs the Nebraska construction real estate team and leads the firm’s employee benefit plan practice in Nebraska. He serves as secretary for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands’ service league and is a graduate of Leadership Omaha Class 39. Scott is also a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Cur tis Thompson has been promoted to tax director in the Hastings office of Lutz. He has more than seven years of experience in public accounting and is responsible for providing tax planning, consulting, and compliance services to individuals and closely held businesses with a focus in the agricultural industry. t UNO SCHOOL OF ACCOUNTING TO HOST 8TH ANNUAL ACCOUNTING SPEAKERS SERIES A financial data presentation specialist and an ethics and forensic accounting expert are the featured speakers at the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Accounting Speakers Series on Sept. 20. Now in its eighth year, this annual event attracts accountants—who can earn two ethics and two accounting continuing professional education (CPE) credits—community members, students, and faculty for a half day of professional development and networking. This year’s keynote speaker is Peter Margaritis, “The Accidental Accountant.” Margaritis is an international certified speaking professional (CSP), podcaster, and author who uses his CPA and business experiences along with humor to inspire individuals to bring added value to their businesses. Based on his book “Taking the Numb Out of Numbers,” his presentation will engage all attendees with his entertaining and thought-provoking suggestions for presenting data with clarity and confidence. Dr. Kelly Richmond Pope will be the ethics speaker. Pope, a CPA and an associate professor at DePaul University, has directed and produced the award-winning documentary film, “All the Queen’s Horses.” She shares her passion, knowledge, and research to enhance professionals’ awareness of organizational misconduct and encourage ethical decision-making. Her topic will be “When Unethical Behavior Becomes Business as Usual: What Do You Do?” Continental breakfast and CPE sign-in begin at 7:30 a.m. in the UNO College of Business Administration’s Mammel Hall. Presentations are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration is available at accounting-speaker.eventbite.com. Tickets are $100 through Sept. 6. UNO students attend for free.
